What is a scalp detox?

A scalp detox is a deep cleansing treatment that removes buildup, sweat, oils, product residue, and environmental impurities from the scalp. Unlike regular shampoo, a scalp detox treatment penetrates deeper to lift stubborn buildup at the root — especially important for protective style wearers who go longer between wash days.

Why do I need a scalp detox before my install?

Protective styles like wigs, braids, locs, and extensions create a sealed environment close to the scalp. Starting your install on a dirty scalp traps existing buildup underneath your style, leading to itching, odor, and scalp discomfort. A pre-install scalp detox resets your foundation so your style is comfortable from day one.

How often should I detox my scalp?

We recommend detoxing before every new protective style install, or every 2–4 weeks depending on your scalp type and activity level. If you sweat frequently or use heavy styling products, more frequent detoxing may be beneficial.

Can I use ToxiTress™ products on my natural hair?

Yes. While ToxiTress™ products are specifically formulated for protective style wearers, they work beautifully on all hair types and textures. The Scalp Reset System is safe for natural hair, relaxed hair, color-treated hair, and locs.

Are ToxiTress™ products safe for sensitive scalps?
